Quebec Immigration is unique as it has the autonomy to select all applicants under economic immigration programs and refugees selected abroad.
A Quebec Acceptance Certificate (Certificat d'Acceptation du Québec, CAQ) is issued to international students and temporary foreign workers planning to reside in Quebec.
How Does the Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) Work for Temporary Foreign Workers?
If you want to work in the province of Quebec, then you need a CAQ in addition to a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
A CAQ is a document that certifies that the Quebec Ministère d'Immigration, Diversité et Inclusion (MIDI) has determined that hiring you would have a positive or neutral impact on the province’s labor market.
You do not need a CAQ if your work in Quebec lasts for a period of 30 days or less. You also don’t need a CAQ if your occupation is not remunerated or requires an LMIA.
If you are exempt from the requirement of a work permit issued by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), then you do not need a CAQ.
How does the Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) Work for International Students?
If you want to study in the province of Quebec, then you will require a CAQ before obtaining a Canadian Study Permit.
You will need an acceptance letter from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Quebec before you can apply for a CAQ.
If you are exempt from the condition of applying for a study permit in Canada, then you do not need a CAQ.
You do not need a study permit if your study program lasts for 6 months or less. However, a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) will be required to stay in Canada.
If you need to extend your study permit, you need to apply while your CAQ is still valid. It is also important to meet all the requirements and conditions of Quebec Immigration.
